Synthetic pot still available at local stores despite law (Yakima Herald-Republic)

Yakima may have banned the sale of legal marijuana, but residents don’t have to go far to buy synthetic pot that’s illegal under state law.

At least five local stores are selling the product. Formerly marketed as spice, but now more commonly labeled potpourri, synthetic marijuana comes in packets labeled “not for human consumption.”

But it is sold at smoke shops and frequently features stoned-looking cartoon characters on the packets. YouTube is full of video reviews of the products done by smokers themselves.

“There’s no other purpose for it, no matter what they say,” Yakima police Lt. Nolan Wentz said.
